Several new fire trucks lined up at the Otter Creek Fire Department today. This was all for the Rosenbauer power tour! 10 brand new fire trucks were parked at the Otter Creek Fire Department Sunday. People from different fire departments and members of the community stopped by to see what all they had to offer.

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – One person was transported to a hospital for their injuries following a single-vehicle crash in the 4300 block of Park Ave. in northern Vigo County Monday.
According to Taylor Hardy, Public Information Officer with The Otter Creek Fire Department, officials were called to the scene just before 10:30 pm. Upon arrival, the crew found a car had left the roadway and crashed head-on into a tree. The female driver was the only occupant and was already out of the vehicle when officials arrived. Authorities said it’s unknown why the vehicle left the roadway, and the crash is currently under investigation by the Vigo Co. Sheriff’s Office. Vigo County, Ind. - On Saturday, 7/17/2021 before 3 p.m. Otter Creek Fire was dispatched to the 7800 block of E Rio Grande Ave for a reported detached garage on fire near a house. Crews were on scene in about six minutes. Firefighters were able to control the fire to the detached garage with only minimal damage to the nearby house. The fire was under control in about 20 minutes. No one was injured in the fire but the garage was a total loss, including the two cars inside. A portion of Rio Grande Ave was closed but has since reopened. Assisting on scene were Nevins Township Fire Department, The Vigo County Sheriff's Office, and Duke Energy.
This fire was the second fire today for Otter Creek today. Both fires are currently under investigation by the Otter Creek Fire Department. https://www.mywabashvalley.com/news/local-news/saturday-fire-destroys-garage/ On July 7, 2021, The Otter Creek Fire Department received a donation to acquire new life-saving tools to help the community. The National Marine Corps League, Joseph A Bray #471 detachment donated $2,000 (two-thousand dollars) to OCFD. The department will use the funds to buy new Automated external defibrillators (AED’s).
Cardiovascular disease remains the most common cause of death in the United States, with cardiac arrest claiming approximately 1000 lives each day in the United States, According to the New England Journal of Medicine. With such high numbers, “contributions like this helps our department to improve the services we provide to the community” said Otter Creek Fire Chief Brad Stott. Commandant Randall Torrence said, “This is a tool that one day may have to be used on me or my family, so we just wanted to help.” Torrence hopes that his detachment can help the community more in the coming future and said, “What better place to do that than with our volunteer fire departments.” Chief Stott said the department hopes to purchase the new AEDs in the near future.
