On July 7, 2021, The Otter Creek Fire Department received a donation to acquire new life-saving tools to help the community. The National Marine Corps League, Joseph A Bray #471 detachment donated $2,000 (two-thousand dollars) to OCFD. The department will use the funds to buy new Automated external defibrillators (AED’s).

Cardiovascular disease remains the most common cause of death in the United States, with cardiac arrest claiming approximately 1000 lives each day in the United States, According to the New England Journal of Medicine. With such high numbers, “contributions like this helps our department to improve the services we provide to the community” said Otter Creek Fire Chief Brad Stott.

Commandant Randall Torrence said, “This is a tool that one day may have to be used on me or my family, so we just wanted to help.” Torrence hopes that his detachment can help the community more in the coming future and said, “What better place to do that than with our volunteer fire departments.”

Chief Stott said the department hopes to purchase the new AEDs in the near future. The check was presented at the department's monthly meeting.
